10 of the most common mistakes made

  1. Lack of Observation at Junctions
Failing to look properly when emerging from junctions or roundabouts is a major cause of failure.
  2. Improper Use of Mirrors
Not checking mirrors before changing lanes, turning, or slowing down is a frequent critical error.
  3. Inadequate Steering Control
Steering too early, too late, or losing control on bends can cause test failure.
  4. Incorrect Lane Positioning
Drifting out of the correct lane or poor road positioning on bends and turns can be dangerous.
  5. Failure to Respond to Traffic Signs or Lights
Ignoring stop signs, red lights, or road markings can instantly result in failure.
  6. Poor Control During Manoeuvres
Mistakes during parallel parking, reversing into a bay, or three-point turns often cause learners to fail.
  7. Not Making Appropriate Progress
Driving too slowly for conditions or hesitating excessively can show lack of confidence or awareness.
  8. Inadequate Response to Hazards
Not reacting appropriately to cyclists, pedestrians, or changing traffic conditions can be marked as dangerous.
  9. Improper Use of Signals
Failing to signal, signalling too late, or giving misleading signals confuses other road users.
  10. Stalling Frequently
While one stall might be acceptable, repeated stalling—especially in hazardous situations—can lead to a fail.
